Dear Sir or Madam: I have worked in education for over seven years, teaching various subjects to equally varied groups of students.  During that time, I have developed a strong teaching philosophy and work ethic.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p> After graduating from Smith College, Matignon High School hired me as a full-time teacher in their religion department.  I taught both religion and history to 5 or 6 classes, for a total of approximately 100 students per year.  Over the five years I worked at Matignon, I developed a year-long curriculum for each of my classes, and learned how to manage a classroom, solve behavior issues, and deliver material effectively to high school students.  I also volunteered as the choir director and as the faculty mentor for the Asian Club, and I tutored students for whom English is a second language.<o:p></o:p> During summer 2007, I took an intensive TEFL certification course at the Boston Language Institute.  I learned specific techniques for teaching vocabulary and grammar skills to English language learners, creating relevant worksheets and activities, and checking student comprehension.  I also worked alone and with a partner to create detailed lesson plans and teach classes to non-native speakers, as part of the course.   <o:p></o:p> In August of 2008, I moved to Seoul to take a job as an English teacher at ReadingTown, a private academy for elementary-school students in Daechi-dong.  Teaching elementary school students brings me great joy and fulfillment, and I don’t mind working hard to create lesson plans that children will enjoy and learn from effectively.  <o:p></o:p> Shortly after beginning my job, the school added a special program called Honors Club to my responsibilities, which teaches high-level students five different subjects that are part of the standard American curriculum.  I teach science, literature, current issues, grammar, writing, and speaking.<o:p></o:p> Additionally, the school promoted me to the position of Head Writing Teacher one year ago.  Since then, I am responsible for training and supervising the other six members of our department, planning and running meetings, and solving problems that come up in the writing department.<o:p></o:p> I am an organized, diligent, and passionate teacher.  I hope to find a position at a school within Seoul where quality education is the foremost priority.  I plan to live in Seoul for many years, so I would also like to work at the same position for three years or more.  I believe that my experience and skills qualify me well for a position at your institution.
