I have 10 years of teaching experience to adult students, with 5 years of that at the tertiary level and all of it overseas. I have taught a wide range of adult students of different nationalities and from professional and university backgrounds. Currently I am teaching business courses, Business Law, Business Ethics and Corporate Governance, to business majors at a Chinese university that offers their students a British degree. Within ESL, I have taught ESP (Legal English and Scientific English) as well as EAP (oral, reading comprehension, and composition).
The two types of law courses I have taught were for business majors. One was a standard Introduction to Business Law course and the other was an Introduction to International Business Transactions. I have taught several business courses, e.g. Corporate Governance, Public Finance, International Economics, Portfolio Management, Real Estate Finance, Business Communication, and Management Information Systems, as well as other subject courses, e.g. Ethics, Introduction to Sociology and Western Civilization. I taught all of these courses in China although at three different universities. So I am experienced with teaching complex business and legal concepts to non-native speakers.
I developed and taught a course to several groups of Latvian judges to improve both their general English language skills and their Legal English as part of a Fellowship program run by the U.S. State Department. I also developed and taught a course that was financed by the Union of Concerned Scientists (an American NGO), in cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics (China's primary nuclear research facility), to a group of Chinese nuclear researchers. In this course, the focus was on their presentation skills, mostly with topics concerning arms control and nonproliferation. Both of these positions involved planning the curriculum, selecting all course materials and improving their spoken English.
I believe I would be highly suited for your needs due to my education, my experience, and my interests. I have a Juris Doctorate and earlier studies in Political Science, Economics and Sociology. My interests keep me current on global politics and economics, information technologies and software, and the many of the latest developments in science. I am presently working on second research paper on the comparative international regulations on the patenting of human genetic material.
I would appreciate the opportunity to work at your institution for it would be a much better environment for me to improve my skills, meet academic scholars and continue my research efforts.
Sincerely,
Bryon C Brittingham
